The Structural Fitter program prepares students for careers in manufacturing and fabrication industries. The work of a structural fitter requires both physical and mental effort, in this course the student will learn to develop skills and competencies required for successful employability. Skills learned in our program include: alignment techniques, fit up practices, leveling, layout techniques and fabricating metal parts from bulk material to create finished sheet- or structural-metal projects. Students will use tools such as calculators, jacks, pry bars, hammers, bandsaws, welding equipment, torches, and files or grinders to fit parts of a component exactly. Upon successful completion of exam and course, students will receive a Qualification for Tack Welding and will receive a Certificate of Completion. Successful graduates may find entry level employment at shipyards, fabrication and construction sites as structural fitters, structural fitter helpers, iron workers and pipefitter helpers.
